Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Orenburg Region Governor Denis Pasler and First Deputy Director General of the Tourism.RF Corporation Denis Sekachyov attended the signing ceremony.
“The tourist industry in the Orenburg Region has strong economic potential that we need to unlock. Before the pandemic, around 1.6 million people visited the region every year. This number has dropped to 700,000 due to COVID-19 restrictions. The agreement with the Tourism.RF Corporation and the resources of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry national project will help us bring back tourists and increase this number. The corporation will be developing additional accommodation capacity in the region. As the first joint project with the regional officials, it will renovate the former aviation school that the first Soviet pilot and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin graduated from. I am certain that with private investment, this landmark will become popular among tourists,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.
Deputy Director General of the Tourism.RF Corporation Denis Sekachyov also commented on cooperation with the region.
“Next, our experts will visit the Orenburg Region to thoroughly explore the tourist potential and analyse local investment projects. We will support all projects that show promise.”
“The local tourism industry has great potential. Our agreement with the Tourism.RF Corporation will be the key asset for building the development strategy for the next ten years. We hope our cooperation will produce modern hotels, and accessible, safe and exciting itineraries. All these results should contribute to the region’s socioeconomic progress. The former aviation school is an important historical landmark for the region. We have been concerned about the future of Gagarin’s school for a long time and wanted to find the best solution. We allocated 400 million roubles from the local budget to buy space in the building from the current owners. Thanks to this new agreement, we will be able to give this landmark a new lease on life. One of our plans is to open a space museum. I believe that focused and consistent work will help us make this truly historic site more attractive to a great number of visitors,” Denis Pasler said.
The Tourism.RF Corporation was established to develop tourism infrastructure in the regions and to unlock the economic potential of domestic and inbound tourism. In cooperation with regional officials, the corporation is developing tourist clusters and investing in infrastructure through public-private partnerships.
Cooperation agreements have already been signed with the governments of the republics of Khakassia, Altai, Buryatia, Mordovia, Sakha (Yakutia) and Chuvashia, the regions of Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Samara, Tula, Ulyanovsk, Pskov, Kursk and Sakhalin, as well as the Primorye, Kamchatka, Trans-Baikal and Altai Territories, plus Moscow.
